Inspired by the Public Theater’s Public Works initiative, we envision this production as a piece of participatory theater that radically expands civic engagement in opera. We aim to build a cast that is made up of both professional singers and local community members, including immigrants and resettled refugees.

As part of our process, we hope to collaborate with partner organizations to teach and facilitate workshops and masterclasses that enrich our communities and become integrated with the production. Through this unique process, we will engage with communities that might not normally attend opera, inviting them to join in the creation of a “multimedia art form in a multimedia world.”
